In November, Venga recognizes Kim of Eddie Merlot’s as our Server of the Month. Kim has been called a “stellar server” by guests and a “true asset” by management – a perfect example of hospitality!
Venga: How did you get started in hospitality?
Kim: My start in restaurants began as a hostess at an upscale seafood restaurant in Indianapolis. It was only supposed to be a summer job for extra income. When they asked if I would serve I was sure I’d be too clumsy to carry large trays! Eventually I figured it out. But in training, I was so bad at waiting tables they didn’t want to let me out on my own! Ha, that was over 20 years ago.
Venga: What’s your favorite part of working in the hospitality industry?
Kim: I really enjoy this business. Several times I’ve left for a “real job”, but I always miss the people, the camaraderie, the fast pace, freedom of movement, and beautiful work environments of the restaurants I’ve worked in.
Venga: What is your least favorite food?
Kim: As far as least favorite food, it would be anything really spicy, especially creole gumbo. I worked where people raved about our gumbo but I couldn’t get past the smell to try it, ha!
Eddie Merlot’s regional director, Bill, says:
“Kim is coming up on her seven year anniversary as a server in our restaurant. Her experience in our restaurant and her utilization of the OpenTable notes provided by Venga make her one of our most requested servers. She recognizes the importance of hospitality and knowledge to produce greater gratuities for her and repeat guests for us. She is a true asset to our restaurant.”
