September Marketing Ideas for Restaurants

With all of the random food holidays, seasonal events, and more, planning a timely restaurant content calendar can be easier and more daunting than ever. At Venga, we’re always about making your life easier so we’ve pulled together a list of ideas for your September marketing campaigns.
All Month Long

September presents a few options for month-long promotions. Along with the back-to-school season starting, September is Hispanic Heritage Month. Try out some fusion dishes or celebrate the Hispanic items already on your menu.

With the fall season starting, there are plenty of opportunities to draw in game day crowds even if you don’t live in a sporting town. Snacks, appetizers, nibbles – whatever you call them – work great for large groups looking to share. Emphasize these along with your beer selection (especially if they rotate seasonally!) and you have a winning recipe for game day.

  • College football season starts
  • NFL season starts
  • End of baseball regular season
  • U.S. Open (Tennis)

Seasonal Ingredients

The recent focus on “local” makes seasonal ingredients very buzzworthy. Soft-shell crabs and truffles are tracked like horse races. Whatever you can find at the farmer’s market is where you should focus. Work with the kitchen to promote these below seasonal items for an on trend campaign:

  • Oysters
  • White truffles
  • Apples
  • Artichokes
  • Blackberries
  • Broccoli
  • Cabbage
  • Cauliflower
  • Carrots
  • Cucumber
  • Curly Kale
  • French Beans
  • Leeks
  • Mushrooms
  • Nectarines
  • New Potatoes
  • Peaches
  • Pears
  • Plums
  • Pumpkins
  • Spinach
  • Squash
  • Sweet Corn
  • Tomatoes

Actual and Food Holidays

A few highlights from September’s food holidays. As beach season comes to an end, the cheeseburger gets double the love. Not only do we have National Cheeseburger Day (Sept 18), but also National Double Cheeseburger Day (Sept 15) within the same week. National Rum Punch Day (Sept 20) falls on a Sunday so start prepping your boozy brunch promotions now. National Beer Lover’s Day falls on Labor Day, which seems like a natural pairing for one awesome promotion.
